Prepare for Perfect Execution
This course provides qualified students with the opportunity to form a team and work with other students, under the mentor-ship of an American Society for Quality Certified Six Sigma Black Belt, to complete a real DMAIC (Define- Measure-Analyze-Improve- Control) Project.
The team will select, and complete, a real world project using a variety of Lean Six Sigma tools, which they are already familiar with. The instructor will review each LSS tool before the students apply it to the project. The instructor will guide the students in the application of each tool to the project and the integration of tools within the project.
Students should expect to perform work on the project both during and between class sessions. This course may involve one or more field trips to the location where the process being improved is located. The team will create a PowerPoint Presentation of the Project during the course. At the end of the course, the Instructor will prepare a Project Affidavit to be signed by the Project Champion. This Affidavit can be used by individual students when applying to take the ASQ CSSBB Exam.
Students must already have taken a Lean / Six Sigma Yellow Belt, Green Belt or Black Belt Course, and/or earned an ASQ CSSGB or Lean Certification, or equivalent as judged by the course instructor.

The course is designed put to practice of the tools related to the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control methodology to a real process improvement team project. Examples of previously completed projects include:
- Manufacturing product defect reduction
- Human resources recruitment cycle time reduction
- Reduced accounts payable invoice processing costs
- Reduced Manufacturing machine setup time

This course is ideal for any Six Sigma Yellow, Green or Black Belt holder looking to complete necessary project hours appropriate for their certification. The completion of this course will result in receiving a Project Affidavit signed by a Project Champion. This Affidavit is a requirement for the Six Sigma Black Belt certification and can be used when applying to take the exam.
Ed May is an American Society for Quality Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (ASQ CSSBB), Certified Manager of Quality / Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) and Certified Supplier Quality Professional (CSQP). He spent two decades in industry, where he held positions in Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality Management, before establishing himself as a quality consultant, adjunct professor, and on-site instructor.
Ed earned his Bachelor of Engineering Degree from Stevens Institute of Technology and his MBA from Harvard Business School.
Ed specializes in Six Sigma Quality, Lean Thinking, and ISO 9001:2008 Quality Systems. Ed has implemented Six Sigma, Lean Thinking, ISO 9000, and other quality systems at numerous organizations in the New York Metropolitan area.
For the last dozen years, Ed has taught courses in Statistics and Quality Systems for the Engineering Technology Department at NJIT. He has taught courses in Business for the School of Management. He also teaches a series of Lean Six Sigma Courses for the Professional Development & Executive Education Department.
Ed brings a unique combination of academic rigor and real world experience to this SSGB course. His passion for Six Sigma is well known among his students, many of whom have taken his courses and gone on to great success in their chosen fields.
